Latenights - Skydragon (8BITD30)

"Skydragon" Latenights first album from 2002. Is without doubt his best work.
The opener "--" introduces the album with a trip hop influenced, delayed breakbeat. Driven by distant chords which may or may not be vocoded vocals. This style is also prevalent in "2and3", "downlet" and "Melbourne Knights"
This sets the tone for the dreamier direction that the album travels in.
The jagged clusters of beats are still there, as is the repeating whimsical melodies fragmented by effects, with the exception of tracks like "86b", "cranky"and the breakcoreish "beavy" and "eb15". Which continues the rain of presliced kicks, snares and hits.

"Skydragon" sounds more planned and executed with some sort of purpose than the spontaneous recordings of his other releases. The degraded pads and brief synth moments of restraint are worth
wading through the woodchipped drum pieces.

Previously released on mp3.com this is the first time the album
has been available for 12 years.
