Chrism And Fenris - Electrodroneglitchbeatz (First Show Live at Sub Level 3 Hyde Park Hotel Perth June 9th 2002) (8BITD29)

Chrism and Fenris were a live/experimental glitch electronic duo that were known in the early 2000s Perth electronic scene for their improvised live constructions using Commodore 64 computers, sequencers, drum machines and various digital and analogue effects.
These included cheap synths and modulators and an Atari 2600 paddler control used to moderate the C64's sound chip.

Like fellow colleagues "Gate" they were two friends who found a common interest in the live alchemy and manipulation of electronic noise and rhythms. The pace of the sound, tempo and composition, directed by a series of seemingly random tweaking and prodding of the equipment perched atop a battered ironing board and occasionally acknowledged by a quick glance from one producer to the other.

Before "Chiptune" was a recognised genre. Chrism and Fenris were experimenting with a similar style already. With breakbeat, jungle, hip hop, video game melodies and turntablism thrown in. They were among one of the more hands on and on the spot improvised live acts that were playing in the city.

8-Bit Recordings played many shows with Chrism and Fenris and this their first performance was the beginning of a live career in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney that continued for the next 9 years.

This is a re-release of their first ever live performance at 8-Bit Recordings showcase night "Sub Level 3" which had a brief mid-year tenure at the now defunct Hyde Park Hotel in North Perth in 2002. These recordings were previously available at their website "Science Girl Records" Recorded by the duo themselves, unedited to reflect the live atmosphere of beat making and manipulating they were known for.
