Gate - Dipshits EP (8BITD17)

Gate was one of the most celebrated live electronic acts of the early naughties Perth underground electronic scene. And one of the most sought after still to this day.

Comprising of two friends who'd known each other since high school. They originally started as a two piece heavy drum machine industrial act called "Unaesthetic" who released one cassette of a run of 20 copies mostly to their friends.

Unaesthetic developed into Gate after the two friends taste moved away from goth and industrial and more towards the darker side of Warp Records influenced glitch and IDM.

Performing live in 2001 for the first time ever along side Boris Otterdam, The Last Ninja and Knife Party/Pendulum member Rob Swire's first band *Conditions Apply. They floored the audience with the site of two skinny young men hunched over a table full of equipment, bobbing and wrenching unidentifiable sounds and noises from a myriad of synths, modulators and drum machines in almost pitch darkness as the only visible light in The venue was the one at their desk.

Although at times closer to noise than music. There is a method to Gate's madness. But the sometimes only brief moments of anything musically coherent, can only survive long enough until one of the two twist and deform the composition into something more pleasant and comprehensible to the ears or just more confusing, abstract and discordant.

All Gate recordings are essentially live recordings of the combined output of it's two members. A partnership married by a silent understanding of each other's ideas and directions that can only come from years of collaborating on music together.

Gate were a steady presence in the Perth underground electronic scene from 2001-2003. After which they parted ways and weren't heard from again.

This is the first time in 11 years that their music has been available. Some of these releases were on mp3.com and some have never before been released.
